A warm, nutty and healthy hot chocolate made with oat milk, maple syrup, cocoa powder and black sesame paste! This black sesame hot chocolate requires only 4 ingredients and takes under 5 minutes to make!

I rely on warm drinks to get me through the winter. I have a hydration station next to my work desk with at least 3 drinks with me at all times: water, tea and either coffee or hot chocolate.

Since you guys have been loving my miso hot chocolate recipe, I wanted to share another variation that takes good ol' hot chocolate and takes it up a notch just by adding one extra ingredient: black sesame paste.

I love black sesame, especially in desserts. If you've never tried black sesame paste before, it has a deep, earthy and nutty flavour that really compliments chocolate, which is why this chocolate black sesame cake is one of my favourites too!

How to make creamy dairy free hot chocolate

This recipe is super quick and if you’re in need of a chocolate fix, this warming drink really does the job.

For this hot chocolate all you need are 4 ingredients: oat milk, maple syrup, cocoa powder and black sesame paste. Optionally for a richer texture you can melt in some semi-dark or dark chocolate chips, too!

Add the oat milk, cocoa powder, maple syrup, black sesame paste into a small sauce pan over medium heat. If you find your cocoa powder tends to be clumpy try sifting it in instead.

Once it starts to bubble, reduce the temperature to low (still stirring) and let it gently simmer until warmed.

Top it off with some coconut whip cream, marshmallows and a bit of black sesame seeds and it's ready to enjoy!

This black sesame hot chocolate is seriously pure deliciousness– it's thick and creamy thanks to both the black sesame and oat milk. A ton of flavour without going crazy on other ingredients and spices, too.

I’m excited to try this, but what is black sesame paste? I see a few different things online. Can I use black sesame tahini? What’s your recommended brand?

Very rich and decadent! I loved the nutty taste the black sesame added to the hot chocolate. Very easy to make and I definitely recommend if you want to add some variety to your vegan hot chocolate!
