Growing up, I always watched my mom and grandparents eat chilled tofu with some kind of sauce poured over it. They would say “this is one of the best dishes, it’s so easy and quick to make and perfect for lazy people like me”. They even had dessert kinds with black sesame tofu and a sweet soy sauce. I never was into that until I had the chance of trying a Spicy Korean Tofu dish that was served chilled awhile back while I was still in school and ever since then, I’ve loved eating chilled tofu. I often found myself reaching for this dish, especially after 9pm classes because it literally took 2 minutes to make! I always changed up the sauce depending on what I had on hand, but found myself always coming back to this Korean inspired Spicy Chili sauce.

Ingredients to make Spicy Cold Tofu

Although I used a Chinese chili bean sauce, because this was very much inspired by the one I had at the Korean restaurant so I’ll consider it to be a Chinese-Korean fusion kinda spicy sauce recipe. I have also made with with gochujang and it’s just as delicious! Just make sure to cut back on the amount because gochujang tends to be a lot spicier IMO.

  1. One of my faves! It’s so simple to make, and so satisfying and filling. I like to score the tofu on the top so that the sauce can seep into the crevices.

  2. Made this last night and it was so delicious! I added in some sliced cucumbers as well to add more fiber and made a little bit extra sauce it was was perfect! I will definitely be repeating this recipe
